Andy Murray, while playing in the Dubai leg of the International Premier Tennis League, announced on Wednesday that he has parted ways from coach Jonas Bjorkman.
With full-time coach Amelie Mauresmo absent due to the birth of her son, Bjorkman joined Murray’s team this spring in advance of the clay-court swing. The Swede remained on board through the remainder of 2015, during which Murray reached the semifinals of the French Open and Wimbledon before leading Great Britain to the Davis Cup title.
Mauresmo, who has been with the Scot in Dubai for IPTL action, reportedly told Murray that she is committed to traveling with him for almost 25 weeks in 2016. That likely made Bjorkman expendable.
Murray posted the following on his Facebook page: “Nice to have Amelie back in the team out in Dubai. Thanks to Jonas for helping out this year. I enjoyed working with one of the nicest guys on the tour, bring on 2016.”
