Nick Kyrgios is working his way closer to a second title in two weeks. The Australian will take on Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz in the Montreal quarterfinals on Friday. Qualifier Jack Draper will also be in action against Pablo Carreno Busta.
Nick Kyrgios vs. (8) Hubert Hurkacz
The Nick Krygios Express continues to roll in Montreal. The world No. 34 is chewing through his section of the draw. He took out top seed Daniil Medvedev in the second round and on Thursday he dispatched countryman Alex de Minaur comfortably. His serve has been impossible for opponents to get a bead on, and he’s playing with immense confidence. He is formidable.
Hubert Hurkacz is going to try, though. He has a win over Kyrgios this season on the grass courts of Halle. Unfortunately for the Pole, he wasn’t particularly convincing in his round of 16 win over Albert Ramos-Vinolas on Thursday. He will need to be at his big-serving best to have a chance against Kyrgios when the Aussie is playing as he is. The nod goes to Kyrgios in this one.

(Q) Jack Draper vs. Pablo Carreno Busta
The bottom half of the draw is now wide open. All seeds have been eliminated and that spells a big opportunity for the four remaining players. Jack Draper, the 20-year-old from England, had to earn his spot in the field the hard way. He qualified for the event and then tore through fellow qualifier Hugo Gaston and No. 3 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas.
He was up a set, but down a break in the second when third round opponent Gael Monfils crumpled to the court with a foot injury. The Frenchman was unable to continue, sending Draper to the quarterfinals.
Pablo Carreno Busta had his own string of upsets to earn his quarterfinal berth. The Spaniard dispatched Matteo Berrettini, Holger Rune, and Jannik Sinner en route to his meeting with Draper. Carreno Busta is ranked No. 23 in the world.
This will be the first meeting between Draper and Carreno Busta. Both men have been in great form in Montreal, although the veteran’s experience in the business end of tournaments is probably a big plus in his favor.
