Monfils' Vienna entertainment comes to an end against Ferrer

Gael Monfils bowed out of the Erste Bank Open on Saturday with a 7-6(5), 7-5 semifinal loss to David Ferrer. Monfils had plenty of chances–especially in the first set–but was doomed by a failure to convert any of six break-point opportunities. Ferrer eventually got the job done after two hours and one minute.

Overall it was a successful and entertaining–what’s new?–week for the Frenchman, who scored wins over Thomaz Bellucci, Poalo Lorenzi, and Lukas Rosol.
