Alex de Minaur got past Joao Fonseca on Monday and will now go up against Matteo Berrettini during fourth-round action on Tuesday. Tomas Machac and Jakub Mensik are also aiming for a place in the quarterfinals.

(10) Alex de Minaur vs. (29) Matteo Berrettini

De Minaur survived a raucous atmosphere at the Miami Open on Monday night and–at least after the match–silenced the Brazilian crowd by beating Joao Fonseca 5-7, 7-5, 6-3. Thus continues a stellar 2025 campaign for the 11th-ranked Australian, who is 18-5 and preceded his third-round thriller with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Bu Yunchaokete.

Up next for De Minaur on Tuesday is a fifth encounter with Berrettini. The head-to-head series is all tied up at 2-2 (Berrettini leads 2-1 at the ATP level), but both of the Italian’s wins have come on grass and De Minaur is 2-0 on outdoor hard courts. Berrettini, who is a modest 8-6 so far this year, booked his spot in the last 16 by defeating Hugo Gaston in three sets and Zizou Bergs in straights. The world No. 30 is dangerous, but in the end De Minaur’s defense should get the best of Berrettini’s offense–just as it did against Fonseca.

(20) Tomas Machac vs. Jakub Mensik

It will be an all-Czech showdown when Machac and Mensik meet for the second time in their careers and for the second time this season. They just faced each other last month in Acapulco, where Machac prevailed 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 on his way to the title.

Machac is playing great and clearly enjoys Miami, so he should be in good shape for Tuesday. The world No. 21 is 16-5 this season and he is one win from a return trip to the quarterfinals of this tournament following defeats of Matteo Arnaldi and Reilly Opelka. Mensik has ousted Roberto Bautista Agut, Indian Wells champion Jack Draper, and Roman Safiulling, giving him 11 main-tour match victories in 2025. The 19-year-old has a huge game, but he probably won’t be able to blow his compatriot off the court and Machac would almost certainly have the edge if this turns into a long, physical contest.
