It has been a tale of two very different seasons for Diego Schwartzman and Yibing Wu heading into their first-ever encounter at the Miami Open on Friday.

Schwartzman is a disastrous 2-7 for his 2023 campaign and has plunged to 38th in the rankings. Wu is 7-2 and became the first Chinese man to win an ATP title when he triumphed at the Dallas Challenger. The 23-year-old also has a match under his belt in Miami already, having defeated Kyle Edmund 7-5, 7-5 on Wednesday. Schwartzman, who got a bye as the No. 31 seed, had no such luxury to pick up a confidence-boosting victory.

On a relatively fast hard court, there is no reason to think the struggling Argentine will suddenly turn things around against Wu.

Pick: Wu in 2
