Rafael Nadal was back on the practice court at the Miami Open on Wednesday after falling earlier in the week during practice. The Spaniard was healthy enough–albeit not quite 100 percent–for a tough practice with Kevin Anderson that included one set.
Other practice pairings including Andy Murray and Gilles Muller, Kei Nishikori and Ryan Harrison, Milos Raonic and Jeremy Chardy, Juan Martin Del Potro and Adrian Mannarino, Gael Monfils and Viktor Troicki, and Ernests Gulbis and Alexandr Dolgopolov.
As for the matches, 18-year-old South Korean Hyeon Chung earned his first ATP-level victory. Playing on Court 1, Chung held off Marcel Granollers 6-0, 4-6, 6-4 in two hours and 13 minute. His reward is a Friday date with Tomas Berdych.
“I haven’t played a lot of high-level ATP Tour matches,” Chung said through a translator. “It was tough; the weather, conditions, and playing against a high-ranked player–everything was tough. But I was motivated. (I was thinking) ‘If I win this match, I’ll get an even better opportunity to play a better player.’”
Chung is joined in the second round by host of Americans, including Jack Sock, Tim Smyczek, Austin Krajicek, Donald Young, and Sam Querrey. Young was the first man to advance when he got past Yen-Hsun Lu via first-set retirement. Querrey was the second to last player to get the job done on Wednesday, as he won the night-session match inside the stadium against Victor Estrella Burgos.
