I’m glad they closed the roof. After seeing Simona in the damn hospital, why wouldn’t we want to do what we have to to avoid a repeat of that? Why they didn’t close it for the women’s final and previous matches is […]

Can’t argue with you there! Although, if Rafa wasn’t there either as you suggest, then I guess he wouldn’t be there to potentially face Fed anyway, right? That could have been an epic Fedal final, 2008 US Open. […]

Without Nadal and Djokovic, sure. Without Andy Murray, though? Nope, wouldn’t make any difference… The only time he was able to be beat Federer at a major was in 5 sets in 2013, and Federer wasn’t beating Novak […]

Congrats Benny! So happy for you, man, once again! π π π I don’t care what anyone says or what the field looks like- a 36 1/2 year old Dad with back problems should not be winning anything…. Unless they are a […]

Where I assume it will happen is in Dubai. Same week as Acapulco. Fed defending hardly anything and Rafa defending finals points. I’d be shocked if Fed played Dubai and didn’t manage to get to #1… But it […]

Kevin commented on the post, Australian Open final expert picks: Federer vs. Cilic 6 years, 9 months ago
The truth is that all we can do is try to guess which version of Cilic will show up. If a top-notch form Cilic shows up to play, he can unquestionably win the title. However, there is just no way to know if that […]

It’s starting to get to get uncomfortable with how badly I feel for Simona… We are headed for Jana Novotna round 2 (r.i.p.), except I can’t help but think about how insanely, unbearably sad it would be for […]

Did it not rain after they closed it? And if I recall correctly, it was a few games into the 3rd set that they closed the roof.

I don’t care who wins, as long as it’s in 5 sets or at least 4 tight ones. Something like that 2001 Sampras/Agassi USO QF, where there was (I believe?) 4 tiebreaks, and all 4 were crazy…

Kevin commented on the post, Now it is Chung's turn for bid to become latest surprise Australian Open finalist 6 years, 9 months ago
There’s gotta be a better example than Thomas Johansson… He at least had to beat the guy who beat Sampras in the USO final less than a year and a half earlier (and got to #1), in the final to win his title. […]

It is hard to get an idea of Fed’s level right now. But the thing is, I think it can be deceiving… Sure, he wasn’t blowing dudes off the court, breaking like 6 times per match. But at the same time, I think he […]

Kevin commented on the post, Australian Open SF preview and prediction: Federer vs. Chung 6 years, 9 months ago
Just as I suspected could possibly be the case, it was so obvious that Chung had ever faced that level of CONSISTENT aggression before. Obviously he has faced players who do a more mild version of that, or maybe […]

Yes, even if you’re a Federer fan, it’s not hard to admit that this tournament has been a dud in the men’s side… The only great story, really, has been the breakout of Chung. I guess there still is the […]

Federer will not become #1 if he wins on sunday. Rafa needed to lose his match against Schwartzman in the 4th round, combined with Federer winning the tournament, for Federer to have left Melbourne as #1.
I […]

Yeah I agree, Ramara, that this year’s women’s final is so exciting! Two great champions, both have been #1, yet both looking for their first Major title! Just the fact alone that one of them will end the match no […]

Kevin commented on the post, Australian Open SF preview and prediction: Federer vs. Chung 6 years, 9 months ago
Honestly, I think Fed fans should be more concerned about what could possibly await him in the final, should he get through Chung… I know that Cilic needs to be in a certain mode in order to beat Federer in a […]

Also, Ricky- if I’m not mistaken, a win for Federer at this AO would be his 20th major title, not 21st…

Daaaamn Benny! You confident, huh?? π π I’ve honestly been picturing a Chung victory here…. But then I remind myself that Chung has likely never faced someone who brings such an aggressive onslaught as […]

I agree with you, Ramara- shoulda/coulda/woulda is so pointless. It can be a combination of reasons why someone is holding the trophy on that second Sunday, such as they played really good tennis, they played well […]

Wow. Chung is seriously going to be a FIGHT for Federer or Berdych in the semis… People should not sleep on this guy right now. He can make these 30+ year old guys look their age, quite easily if he wants to. […]
