Major predictions in tennis for the year 2022

An exciting 2021 tennis season ended with Daniel Medvedev winning the U.S. Open and positioning himself to be Novak Djokovic’s biggest challenger to the No. 1 ranking. Djokovic had already won the first three Grand Slams of the season, tying him at a record 20 with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

It was a year that had both expected results but also some surprises, thus entertaining the global tennis fan population from start to finish.

With 2021 having come and gone, let’s have a look at some predictions for 2022.

On the WTA tour, British teenager Emma Raducanu came from just about out of nowhere to win the U.S. Open. Is that kind of trend likely to continue this season? Maybe not. Check out what there is to look forward to in tennis in 2022. There are plenty of proven veterans at the top of the WTA rankings who are multi-Grand Slam champions. Players like Ashleigh Barty, Simona Halep, Naomi Osaka, and Garbine Mugurza are generally still dominating the sport. The talented newcomers like Raducanu, Leylah Fernandez, and Coco Gauff may have difficulty beating the veterans on a consistent basis.

Gauff was inconsistent in 2021—understandable considering here young age—and Fernandez has never had much success on clay or grass. As such, their chances of a Grand Slam breakthrough this year may be slip. As for Maria Sakkari, she has made deep runs at majors in the past but her confidence seems to wane when the pressure picks up in the latter stages of tournaments.

Still, tennis is prone unexpected twists and turns with new champions at slams every so often. It piques users’ interest in predicting the outcomes of future events such as the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, U.S. Open, and others. Online game sites are the best places to place your bets in order to match your odds and win. Wagering on games online is common in many countries, which is why there are specialty sites maintained by experienced gamblers who assess certain betting and gambling operators. Take Asiabet, for example; they have compiled a list of the best online gambling sites in Thailand after conducting extensive research. They only recommend sites that are completely licensed, have fair promotions, and have good odds. When it comes to tennis, betting is no less popular as it is in other sports. The site has all the guides and strategy to help you place your bet in the comfort of your own home.

Novak Djokovic and his tennis magic

Novak Djokovic could miss the season’s first Grand slam of the season due to the guidelines from the Victorian government. That could make things more promising for Alexander Zverev, who looks like an excellent candidate to win his first major title in Melbourne. Given his recent title at the 2021 Nitto ATP Finals, it is evident that even if Djokovic does play in the Australian Open the German is still a legitimate title contender. Zverev was the one who beat Djokovic at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, ending the Serb’s hopes to achieve the calendar-year Golden Slam.

Meanwhile, Federer is out of the 2022 Australian Open due to a knee injury and could even be in doubt for the French Open and Wimbledon. As the Maestro turns 41 later this year, his fans look toward Wimbledon as a potential farewell spot for him to say goodbye to tennis. Along with Federer, Serena Williams is also in her 40s and has been slow to recover from a hamstring injury.

Per the odds, even if Djokovic misses the 2022 Australian Open he is still expected to surpass the number of 20 Grand Slam titles on which he, Federer, and Nadal all sit. The Serbian legend has a realistic chance of climbing to 25 majors or more before ending his career. Even Nadal has stated that Djokovic, one of his greatest rivals, can win most majors by the end of their respective careers.

As of now, Djokovic’s main challenger in Melbourne appears to be Medvedev. There could be a change at the top of the rankings following the Australian Open if Medvedev wins the title and continues his great form in 2022.

  1. I don’t think Djokovic can’t win 25 majors. He can win another 1 maybe 2.

You’re understanding how difficult it is to win majors post 34/35 especially when there’s an established younger group and some very promising younger players about to break through.

Every opportunity is critical for Djokovic because it will get harder with each passing major, and he knows it.

  2. And you should keep in mind that 6-8 of those majors were “hooks” when the match was stolen from an imminent losing position. Djokovic’s tally should be 14 or something, a notch below the 2 real greats in Federer and Nadal.

It’s only the uninformed or niave that thinks Djokovic is better than those 2.

  3. Federer was probably the least “exploitative” out of the 3 but did have a huge advantage on serve. Fed won a lot of majors with clutch serving.

Djokovic exploited the natural human tendency for other players to eventually want to go for their shots, to want to progress and Nadal exploitated the fact that he had a forehand into his opponents backhand, most of the time.

  4. Rublev wins the AO; Joker may get to 22 Majors….but no more than 22….and maybe not even that many. Sure hope Fed returns for at least a farewell tour
