Botic van de Zandschulp will try to recover from his disastrous loss to Holger Rune in last week’s Munich final when he begins his Mutua Madrid Open campaign on Saturday. Van de Zandschulp served for his first ATP title a whopping three times in the third set and had four championship points before losing a heartbreaker.
Up first for the Dutchman on Saturday is Aslan Karatsev, whom he destroyed in Munich. However, faster conditions should favor the Russian and he already has three wins under his belt in Madrid. Karatsev qualified for the main draw and then posted a solid clay-court victory over Laslo Djere in straight sets.
With Karatsev adjusted to the conditions and Van de Zandschulp probably still reeling from his Munich choke, an upset could be in the cards.
Pick: Karatsev in 2
