Hubert Hurkacz and Borna Coric will be facing each other for the fourth time in their careers when they meet again in round three of the Mutua Madrid Open on Sunday.
Coric leads the head-to-head series 2-1, but that probably doesn’t mean much when it comes to Sunday’s showdown since he has been in dreadful form of late. The 20th-ranked Croat had won only three matches in ATP tournaments this season prior to arriving in Madrid. More than half of his total ranking points (1,000 of 1,890) come from last year’s Cincinnati Masters title.
Hurkacz, on the other hand, is 17-9 this season and conditions in Madrid are great for his game. The clay gives him time to set up for his groundstrokes and the high altitude makes his booming serve even more effective. All in all, this should be a routine day at the office for the No. 12 seed.
Pick: Hurkacz in 2
