An all-seeded affair in the Halle final on Sunday afternoon pits Daniil Medvedev against Hubert Hurkacz. At Queen’s Club, Filip Krajinovic ousted two-time winner Marin Cilic and now goes up against defending champion Matteo Berrettini.

Terra Wortmann Open: (1) Daniil Medvedev vs. (5) Hubert Hurkacz

Medvedev and Hukacz will be facing each other for the fifth time in their careers and for the fifth time since the start of last summer when they meet again in the Halle final on Sunday. Their first encounter came during fourth-round action at Wimbledon last year, when Hurkacz pulled off a 2-6, 7-6(2), 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 upset. The head-to-head series stands at 2-2 following the Pole’s 7-6(7), 6-3 victory in the Miami quarterfinals this spring.

Banned from Wimbledon, Medvedev is wasting no time posting some good grass-court results that will help him stay at No. 1 in the world. The 26-year-old was runner-up last week in ‘s-Hertogenbosch and he is through to another title match following straight-set wins over David Goffin, Ilya Ivashka, Roberto Bautsita, and Oscar Otte. Hurkacz’s week has been far more eventful, with two sets lost and five tiebreakers played in his last two matches–including two in both a 7-6(2), 7-6(4) quarterfinal victory at Felix Auger-Aliassime’s expense and a 4-6, 7-6(2), 7-6(4) semifinal defeat of Nick Kyrgios. The world No. 12 is 4-0 lifetime in ATP finals, has plenty of confidence in this particular matchup, and is more battle-tested in Halle. Hurkacz may have the edge in what should be competitive contest.

Cinch Championships: Filip Krajinovic vs. (2) Matteo Berrettini

Berrettini can’t seem to lose on grass no matter the situation. The 2021 Queen’s Club champion and Wimbledon runner-up and missed the entire clay-court swing because of a right-hand injury, but rust has proven to be no issue for him. Berrettini triumphed in Stuttgart last weekend and is now back in the Queen’s Club title match following victories over Dan Evans, Denis Kudla, Tommy Paul, and Botic van de Zandschulp. Only Kudla managed to take a set in the first four rounds and no other set was more competitive than 6-4.

Up next for the 10th-ranked Italian is Krajinovic, who trails the head-to-head series 2-0 (both on clay). Krajinovic has come pretty much out of nowhere to beat Jenson Brooksby, Sam Querrey, Ryan Peniston, and Marin Cilic. The 48th-ranked Croat is 11-12 lifetime on grass, whereas Berrettini is an unbelievable 31-3 on it dating back to 2019. Needless to say, this is an absolute mismatch.

Pick: Berrettini in 2

    • Let’s not get carried away. In Stuttgart and Queens Berrettini only beat the people he would be expected to beat to make the last 16 at Wimbledon.

At Stuttgart he beat Albot, Sonego, Otte and Murray. At Queens he beat Evans, Kudla, Paul, Botic and Krajinovic.
