If there is year-end award for Best Point in an Exhibition Match, Roger Federer locked it up at the Match for Africa 4 in Seattle on Saturday.
There isn’t–which may not be a bad thing for Federer since he has to be running out of room for any more hardware. But he would have earned the aforementioned hypothetical honor with a tweener followed by a flicked backhand winner past John Isner with Isner serving at 2-4, 15-all in the first set.
“You gotta be kidding me” and “welcome to the magic show” were Mark Knowles’ comments.
Mary Carillo asked: “Is it okay for a shot of the year/point of the year to come from a charity match?”
Federer ended up beating Isner 6-4, 7-6(7). It was preceded by an exhibition doubles match featuring Federer and Microsoft founder Bill Gates vs. Isner and Pearl Jam lead guitarist Mike McCready. Federer and Gates won 6-4. Proceeds benefited the Roger Federer Foundation.
