Djokovic one win away from calendar-year Grand Slam after beating Zverev in five

Novak Djokovic is one win away from capturing the calendar-year Grand Slam after he outlasted Alexander Zverev 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 in the semifinals of the U.S. Open on Friday night.

Djokovic lost the opening set of a fourth consecutive match but once against bounced back impressively and overcame Zverev in three hours and 33 minutes.

Daniil Medvedev is the last man standing in the 34-year-old’s way of history–history that would also include a record-breaking 21st major title.

Medvedev marched into the championship match with a 6-4, 7-5, 6-2 victory over Felix Auger-Aliassime. The second-ranked Russian finished with 12 more winners than errors (37 to 25) and benefited from 10 Auger-Aliassime double-faults while prevailing in two hours and four minutes.

Djokovic has already defeated in one slam final this season, triumphing 7-5, 6-2, 6-2 at the Australian Open.
