Djokovic, Murray to continue partnership through Wimbledon

Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray will reportedly continue their player-coach arrangement through Wimbledon following a mostly successful Australian Open.

With Murray on his coaching team for the first time, Djokovic advanced to the semifinals at Melbourne Park–felled only by a hamstring injury against Alexander Zverev. The 37-year-old Serb’s run included a quarterfinal victory over Carlos Alcaraz.

“We are both disappointed with what just happened, so we didn’t talk about the future steps,” Djokovic said immediately following his retirement against Zverev. “I’ll definitely have a chat with Andy and thank him for being here with me. You know, give him my feedback–which is, of course, positive–and see how he feels. We are still hot-headed and disappointed, so it’s kind of hard to switch the page and start talking about what the next steps are. I think we both need to cool off a little bit and then we’ll have a chat.”

That chat has now happened, with the expectation that Murray will be in the coaching corner through at least the next two Grand Slams–the French Open and Wimbledon. Murray’s next appearance could be at the Indian Wells Masters, although Djokovic’s status for the first Masters 1000 event of 2025 is unclear given his injury.

“It’s all business for us now,” Djokovic said during his on-court interview following his Aussie Open first-round win. “Obviously (I’m) thrilled to have him in my corner. I must say, it was a little bit of a strange experience to have him right courtside in my box. We played for over 20 years against each other on the highest level, and it’s great to have him on the same side of the net.”
