Dimitrov wins 2024 Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award

Grigor Dimitrov was announced by the ATP as the 2024 Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award winner on Friday.

“I’m just very grateful, very thankful to all my fans, to all my colleagues, to everyone that has been such a support throughout all this time,” Dimitrov said. “I feel very fortunate. Thank you all for this amazing appreciation, and I’ll make sure to keep on going and to keep on striving to be the best.”

The 33-year-old earned the recognition for the first time in his career and he is the third consecutive first-time winner. Casper Ruud was the 2022 honoree before Carlos Alcaraz won it in 2023.

Roger Federer (13 times) and Rafael Nadal (five times) had a monopoly on the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award 18 years in a row from 2004 through 2021. Edberg also won it on five occasions before it was named in his honor starting in 1996.

Dimitrov’s on-court exploits were also successful this past season. The Bulgarian broke back into the top 10 (currently 10th) with a 46-18 match record that featured a title in Brisbane and runner-up performances in Marseille, Stockholm, and at the Masters 1000 in Miami.
