American Reilly Opelka will play British lefty Cam Norrie in the Delray Beach championship match on Sunday for a chance at his second title in as many weeks. Opelka triumphed last weekend in Dallas.
It will be the No. 1 seed vs. the No. 2 seed in the Delray Beach Open final on Sunday afternoon. Reilly Opelka, who snagged his third career title in Dallas a week ago, will be trying for number four in Delray. Standing in his way is world No. 13 Cameron Norrie.
Opelka played a three-hour thriller on Saturday night against John Millman to earn his spot in the final. Each set of that thriller went to a tiebreaker; Opelka had 10 chances to break Millman’s serve but only converted once. Still, the towering American’s serve saw him through for the win. Opelka finished the match with 16 aces.
Norrie was one game away from being knocked out of the tournament in the quarterfinals. American Sebastian Korda served for the match at 5-4 in the third set, but a nervy service game allowed the Brit back in the match and he eventually closed it out in a third-set ‘breaker. The world No. 13 breezed through his semifinal against Tommy Paul to earn his spot in Sunday’s championship match.
With the way Opelka is serving and the home-crowd advantage, the American should pull this one out. Norrie is a tough competitor, so expect the final to go the distance with at least a tiebreaker or two.
