The first round of Davis Cup qualifying will take place this week across 13 countries around the world. A total of 26 teams are competing for 13 spots in the second round of qualifying, which is set for September.
After finishing runner-up to Italy in 2024, the Netherlands is already through to the next qualifying stage. That will make a total of 14 nations in round two, with seven advancing to the Davis Cup Finals. Italy is automatically in the finals thanks to its triumph last fall.
Here are the first-round qualifying matchups (home team listed second):
Hungary vs. Canada
United States vs. Chinese Taipei
Slovakia vs. Croatia
Argentina vs. Noway
Finland vs. Austria
Korea vs. Czechia
Brazil vs. France
Australia vs. Sweden
Germany vs. Israel
Serbia vs. Denmark
Chile vs. Belgium
Great Britain vs. Japan
Spain vs. Switzerland
Brazil vs. France promises to be especially intriguing. The Brazilians are led by Joao Fonseca, who won the NextGen ATP Finals in December and upset Andrey Rublev at the Australian Open. France’s roster is stacked–featuring Ugo Humbert, Arthur Fils, and Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.
