The Mifel Tennis Open in Los Cabos–not unlike the other Mexico-based ATP event in Acapulco–is known as a night event. Matches never start until the late afternoon or early evening and always go well into the night.
However, even by Los Cabos standards things got a bit out of control on Thursday…or more like Friday.
Despite lasting a very reasonable one hour and 38 minutes, the final quarterfinal match on the schedule between Borna Coric and Ilya Ivashka ended at 3:02 in the morning. It was preceded by a couple of long three-setters; Alex de Minaur defeated Tommy Paul in two hours and 26 minutes before Stefanos Tsitsipas outlasted Nicolas Jarry in two hours and 57 minutes.
Another three-setter could have pushed the finish time past 4:00 am, but Coric cruised past Ivashka 6-3, 6-4.
