Holger Rune’s coaching musical chairs continued when he rehired Patrick Mouratoglou earlier this week. Rune recently parted ways with Boris Becker, having previously split from Severin Luthi in January following just one month of work.
The 20-year-old worked with Mouratoglou from October of 22 to April of 2023, during which Rune captured the Paris Masters title. Despite still registering at a solid No. 7 in the rankings, the Dane has struggled since reaching the Brisbane final and he owns just a single title (an ATP 250 in Munich) dating back to the start of 2023.
“I am excited to resume working with Patrick,” Rune stated. “With him I have achieved some of the greatest triumphs of my career so far, and I can’t wait for us to chase the next major titles together. Moving ahead, we have had good talks on how our collaboration should unfold, and we have agreed on a strong setup that creates the best conditions for my performance.”
“I am excited to start a new collaboration with Holger,” Mouratoglou added. “We have known each other since he was 13 years old and I always believed in his potential. He has high goals, and so do I for him. It is the start of a new adventure. See you guys in Acapulco, Indian Wells and Miami.”
Meanwhile, it was announced on Thursday that Gilles Simon will join Gilles Cervara on Daniil Medvedev’s coaching team starting next week in Dubai. Cervara remains the head coach, but he plans on traveling not quite as much in 2024 and that’s when Simon will be on the scene.
Medvedev and Simon already trained some together at the Mouratoglou Academy while the Russian was taking some time off following his Australian Open final loss to Jannik Sinner.
“He is an addition to the team,” Medvedev said, as reported by Tennis Majors. “He is going to help us move forward, help us win titles, and help me become a better player.
“We see how it goes. So far it has been going good. Hopefully it is for a very long time, but that depends on a lot of factors. We will see how much time he spends. For sure Gilles Cervara will be more time with me than Gilles Simon; that is how it works because that is how it was. We will see what the future brings as to how many weeks he will be with us.”
Simon, who peaked at No. 6 in the world, retired at the end of the 2022 season.
Simon!
Simple Simon .
I cant see the logic, Meddy is better on all surfaces than Simon ever was apart from clay. Then again, I did read on here the Simon wasnt even decent on that surface.;)
