  1. sorry to hear about Roberto, I hope his dad is okay. Not watching, cause not paying. Did see the US matches though, great wins for Taylor, Sam and Jack!

    • RBA’s father died – I’m sorry about that too. Tough time for him. I’ve been keeping track of this Davis Cup but I also decided not to pay to watch, largely because I have no faith in people who cannot run a competent website that reports scores to manage to deliver a stream that works.

Novak and Rafa have both called for Davis Cup and this new ATP cup to be combined into one tournament. Probably too sensible to actually happen. Why oh why must the ATP and WTF compete? Maybe they should hold a tennis match between their CEO’s to settle things.

      • Ramara, the new DC website is indeed pretty terrible. And there seem to be quite a few hickups as far as the organisation is concerned. How can matches last until 4:30 in the morning??? So far I have a hard time to accept this competition as Davis Cup. Zverev was a bit disingenious because even when the old format was still in place, he hardly ever played for Germany😉. But he has nevertheless summed up eloquently why this new competition isn’t Davis Cup.

        • It’s tennis, Rafa is playing. That’s all it takes for me. But, yeah, this will definitely be Davis Cup with an asterisk or three.

The players, God bless ’em are taking it seriously. That deserves respect. As for the organizers….definitely not an “A”. Maybe a C+ so far.

I don’t know much at all about the new ATP cup but I think it’s a good idea to have something beside 250’s as prep for the AO. But combining it to make a Davis Cup? Even the thought of having DC at the beginning of the tennis year is just so wrong! Can’t wrap my head around that! After the USO is the ideal time but they’re going to have a hard time persuading Roger to move Laver Cup and he did get there first. I kind of wish Roger’s group had bid on Davis Cup instead; they’re very competent. Probably too competent to get involved with DC.

          • Not easy to manage so many teams and I doubt Fed and his team could do it either. LC is much easier – choose one location each year, and then getting 6 players from Europe and 6 from rest of the world and that’s it.

I like this new format of DC when I can see so many players playing in team event at one location. They all take it seriously.

It’s a new format and very much need some getting used to, and some glitches here and there to be fixed or ironed out. The organisers need to promote this event more deligently worldwide, be it live telecast or getting in the crowd to feel the arenas. Also, choosing the venue each year could be an issue unless proper rules are laid out and followed.

It’s encouraging that many players are serious about the DC and playing for their countries. The early qualifying rounds are still held at various locations classified by zones, so crowd could still fill the arenas to support their home teams at the various locations.

I hope this format could at least help to ensure the continuation of DC; it’s good and encouraging to see Rafa, Djoko and Murray, three of the big four, getting involved, and the young players like Shapo, Rublev, Berrittini, Khachanov, De Minaur, Tiafoe, Fritz too.

          • Did anyone see Rafa vs Diogo? If not, MUST watch the highlights. Rafa was ON FIRE! would have loved to see this Rafa vs the Djoker!

          • Ooo, love to see Rafa on fire! But Djoker’s OUT and Spain will play GB. I’m told Rafa will play Dan Evans, leaving Murray or Kyle to Spain’s #2. (Anyone know how it’s decided who plays who?) Got a feeling it’ll come down to the doubles AGAIN in which case Spain could be in Big Trouble.
