Can Novak Djokovic go all the way at Wimbledon?

With Wimbledon rapidly approaching, there is not much time left to analyze the situation and check the winning odds.

Novak Djokovic is the favorite as the three-time defending champion and having won it six times overall. Although the Serb’s 2022 form may not be his best, he at least managed to win the Rome Masters before falling to Rafael Nadal in the Roland Garros semifinals. Rafael Nadal, a two-time winner at the All-England Club, has won the first two Grand Slams this season but his status for Wimbledon is uncertain because of a foot injury.

A rough year for tennis

Tennis has been through a lot in the last two and a half years. Unfortunately, in 2022 things are still not completely back to normal even though fans are back in full capacity after that wasn’t the case in 2020 or 2021 because of the Covid-19 pandemic. This is probably the most sensitive moment in the history of this sport, as we are witnessing a generational change—even though Djokovic and Nadal continue to win most of the majors—and a strong influence of politics. For example, Russian and Belarusian players are banned from Wimbledon this summer because of their countries’ involvement in the war against Ukraine.

Also, at least one player who dominated the tennis scene for many years won’t be playing at the All-England Club. And it could be two. Roger Federer, who is 40 years old, is close to being one full year away from the tennis court as he is still recovering from a knee injury. Nadal won the French Open, but his chronic foot injury leaves him in doubt for Wimbledon. The only one of the Big 3 currently in peak physical condition is Djokovic. Speaking of challenges, he has had more than a few of those in 2022. Still, as we’re taking all circumstances under consideration Djokovic is obviously more than capable of winning a seventh Wimbledon title.

Predictions and odds for Wimbledon winners

With Wimbledon a little more than two weeks away, Djokovic remains the favorite at Betway. And why not? He triumphed in London in 2018, 2019 and 2021 (the 2020 was cancelled because of the pandemic). Nadal and Alcaraz are the second favorites, followed by last year’s runner-up Matteo Berrettini, Felix Auger-Alassime, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Nick Kyrgios, and Marin Cilic.

In an attempt to look at the situation from Djokovic’s corner, he obviously wants this title in big way given how 2022 has progressed so far. Starting with the unfortunate Australian Open episode, which many would like to erase from their memory, it seems that he is struggling to find his game. Although it’s not the first time this has happened, Djokovic has been wildly inconsistent. Since the beginning of the year he has withdrawn from four events, failed to reach the semifinals three times, lost one semifinal (to Carlos Alcaraz in Madrid) and lost the Serbia Open final to Andrey Rublev.

Mindset is the key?

Some tennis analysts claim that although this is not the brightest moment in his career, it wouldn’t be the first time for Djokovic to rise from the ashes. His mindset can be his strongest weapon at times, but also his occasional downfall. When the world No. 1 puts himself in winning mode, nothing is impossible for him. He is known as someone who can play against the whole stadium and win. But he can also lose matches he shouldn’t when frustration boils over.

One source of Djokovic’s recent struggles could be that he is playing not only against his opponents but also for records and amidst plenty of negative perceptions stemming from various off-the-court issues.

So, can Djokovic lift the trophy at Wimbledon? Absolutely! How certain are we? Not at all!

  1. With Medvedev and Zverev out I think it makes Novak’s chances even better. But I don’t assume that anyone has it all wrapped up before the tournament starts. If Rafa plays then that could change things.

I would love to see Murray win but I honestly don’t see it happening. As much as I detest Kyrgios, he could be a dark horse here if he can keep it together king enough. Berrettini could be a contender if he is in good enough shape. FAA should be in the mix.

I think there are enough good players to nshe this an interesting Wimbledon,

  2. I was one of those who really wanted Rafa to make a push for Wimby this year and was not really looking forward to him playing FO but look how things turned out. Think this was one of the best FOs in recent memory, very happy that he participated and even more that he won, it felt vindicated somehow as if order was restored, lol!!

However, as for Wimby, I will remain cautiously optimistic as Im not quite sure how he will fair if he participates given the foot. I mean lets be honest, do we really expect Rafa to win 3 out of four even with the depleted field which by the way is still strong? Me? I’ll just watch at the sidelines, teehee!!!

  3. I dont know why, but I am extremely bullish on Rafa winning Wimbly if he plays. he does not face Novak until the finals. This will give him enough time to round into solid form. He has also been clutch this year, unlike the last several years.
