Andy Murray will continue his Brisbane campaign when he goes up against Danill Medvedev during second-round action on Wednesday night. Nick Kyrgios and Jeremy Chardy are also aiming for a place in the quarterfinals.
(4) Daniil Medvedev vs. (PR) Andy Murray
There is nowhere to go but up for Murray at least until July–and really throughout the entire season–after missing almost all of the 2018 campaign. But the pressure will be on for Murray to pick up wins early and get some confidence going as he begins his climb from No. 240 in the rankings. That effort got off to a comfortable enough start on Tuesday at the Brisbane International, where the 31-year-old Scot defeat James Duckworth 6-3, 6-4.
Up next for Murray on Wednesday is a first-ever showdown against Medvedev, who is coming off a breakthrough year on tour. The Russian climbed to 16th in the world on the strength of three titles, including one during the Australian summer (Sydney). Still, Murray will benefit from already having a match under his belt and the veteran should be able to outfox his up-and-coming opponent.
Pick: Murray in 3

(8) Nick Kyrgios vs. Jeremy Chardy
Kyrgios and Chardy will also be going head-to-head for the first time in their careers when they collide on Wednesday afternoon. This marks a quick turnaround for Kyrgios, who survived an ace-fest with Ryan Harrison 7-6(5), 5-7, 7-6(5) in his opener. The 35th-ranked Australian blasted an incredible 44 aces in just three sets, while Harrison countered with 27 of his own.
Chardy booked his spot in the last 16 by also winning a three-setter; 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 over Jan-Lennard Struff. The 31-year-old Frenchman enjoyed a bit of resurgence in 2018 and once again became relevant on the ATP Tour, climbing back up to 40th in the rankings. But the discrepancy in talent level is obvious and Kyrgios–as long as he is at least somewhat motivated–will likely have an edge if he serves anywhere close to the level he displayed on Tuesday.
Pick: Kyrgios in 2
