Berdych vs. Monfils: A history of falls

The first time Tomas Berdych and Gael Monfils squared off this season, it was Berdych who took a tumble before being helped up by Monfils. Roles were reversed on Tuesday at the Miami Open.

Monfils was forced to retired in the second set of their fourth-round clash, but he reportedly said afterward that he would need only a few days of recovery.

“In the end I feel sorry for Gael,” Berdych reflected. “That’s not the ideal way to finish up the match. But in the end I’m through. That’s what matters; that’s what counts. So I’m happy with the win. Really just it’s not the way that you want to finish the match, but that’s how it is.”

  1. Love to see this kind of sportsmanship on the Men’s tour….good for the game, good for the fans to see, good for younger players to emulate.
