It was a good day for hometown players, as Atlanta’s own Robby Ginepri and Donald Young advanced to the final round of qualifying. Young battled back from a break down in the first set against India’s Saketh Myneni, won it in a tiebreaker, then saved all four of the break points he faced in set two on the way to a 7-6(3), 6-3 victory. Ginepri recovered from a set deficit to beat Jeff Dadamo 3-6, 6-1, 6-3. The former U.S. Open semifinalist won the last four games of the match. Young will face Tim Smyczek on Monday while Ginepri will battle Kevin King for a spot in the main draw.
It was not a successful day for the University of Virginia. Current star and NCAA Tournament hero Mitchell Frank went down to Smyczek 6-1, 6-4. Former Cavalier Somdev Devvarman fell to fellow Indian Prakash Amritraj 6-3, 6-4. Next up for Amritraj is Mischa Zverev.
