Carlos Alcaraz missed the 2022 Nitto ATP Finals and the 2023 Australian Open because of a leg injury, but it didn’t take him long to get back in gear on the court. In fact, it didn’t take him any time at all.

Playing his first tournament of the season, Alcaraz defeated Cameron Norrie 6-3, 7-5 in the final of the Argentina Open on Sunday afternoon. The reigning U.S. Open champion cruised in one hour and 33 minutes to a complete a dominant run to the title in which he dropped only one set (to Laslo Djere in his opening match) and never even had to play a single tiebreaker.

“I felt very comfortable playing the final,” Alcaraz said. “I knew that it was going to be really difficult. I started really focussed on what I had to do at the beginning (with) my game, my level.  This is the level that I have to play in finals.

“It is really special. I struggled in these (last) four months.”

The 19-year-old Spaniard now heads to Rio de Janeiro to defend his 500-point title from last February.
