It will be a contest between a former Adelaide champion (Kokkinakis, 2022) and runner-up (Korda, 2023) when they battle for a semifinal spot at the Adelaide International on Thursday. This is without question Kokkinakis’ favorite city on tour. In addition to his title, the 28-year-old Australian has treated the home crowd to a pair of semifinal showings and now finds himself in the quarters following three-set wins over Yoshihito Nishioka and Tomas Martin Etcheverry.

Korda came within one point of upsetting Novak Djokovic in the 2023 final but eventually succumbed 6-7(8), 7-6(4), 6-4. The 22nd-ranked American was once again plagued by injuries in 2024, but he looked good in his opening match of the 2025 season–a 6-3, 6-3 rout of Alejandro Davidovich Fokina on Wednesday. Korda is sweeping the head-to-head series with Kokkinakis 3-0, but he saved a match point in miracle fashion on his way to the Washington, D.C. trophy last summer. With home-court advantage, Kokkinakis has a good chance to turn the tide on Thursday.

Pick: Kokkinakis in 3

(5) Felix Auger-Aliassime vs. Marcos Giron

Auger-Aliassime and Giron will be facing each other for the sixth time in their careers. The head-to-head series stands at 4-1 in favor of Auger-Aliassime, but two of his victories have come on clay and two have come on grass. Giron won their only previous hard-court encounter 6-1, 6-4 at the ATP 500 in Tokyo two years ago.

A hard court and Auger-Aliassime’s extreme inconsistency are factors that could once again tip the scales in Giron’s favor. Auger-Aliassime went 4-9 in his last 13 tournament matches (not including Davis Cup) in 2024 and is off to an unspectacular start to this season. The 29th-ranked Canadian needed three very tight sets to get past Arthur Cazaux in the Adelaide second round. Giron has advanced with impressive defeats of Aleksandar Vukic and Denis Shapovalov. The 45th-ranked American is rolling this week and should be able to take advantage of a vulnerable opponent who is lacking confidence.

Pick: Giron in 3
