The NextGen ATP Finals are a whole month later than they have been in previous years. No longer is this a season-ending event; now it’s more like a warmup for the following season. The 2024 installment of this 20-and-under tournament will take place December 18-22 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Arthur Fils, Alex Michelsen, Jakub Mensik, Jerry Shang, Learner Tien, Luca Van Assche, and Nishesh Basavareddy have qualified for the prestigious field of eight, leaving one spot remaining.Â
Joao Fonseca, one of the most well-known teenagers on tour, currently occupies the all-important eighth position. The 18-year-old Brazilian is followed in the race by Martin Landaluce, Coleman Wong, Henrique Rocha, and Vilius Gaubas. Landaluce is not playing this week, while Wong, Rocha, and Gaubas have already lost in their respective Challenger events.
Basavareddy was the most recent player to qualify after winning a hard-court Challenger title in Mexico last weekend. The Stanford University standout is 41-13 on the Challenger Tour this season.
“It feels great,” Basavareddy assured. “I’ve lost a couple finals, won my first title in Tiburon (in October), but I’ve lost two more finals after that. So I’m really happy to get over the finish line.”
