Jannik Sinner was crowned champion of the inaugural Six Kings Slam exhibition in Riyadh, Saudi Arabai on Saturday after beating Carlos Alcaraz 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-3 in the final.
Sinner failed to finish off a 4-1 lead in the opening set and he also gave back a break early in the second. However, the top-ranked Italian finally managed to consolidate momentum; he managed to level the match at a set apiece and one break was enough in the decider.
Sinner’s prize money for the exo win is $6 million. He will also take anything he can get against Alcaraz these days, as the Spaniard is 3-0 head-to-head in official tour matches this season.
“I wake up in the morning trying to understand the ways to beat him,” Sinner said of his rivalry with Alcaraz. “These kind of rivalries and players push us to our 100 percent limit. I’m happy about this today. But the reason we came here was to show all of you what tennis is about. It can be long sometimes, like today. But we just try our best. Hopefully, you enjoyed the show.”
“I give my 100 percent every day to be a better player,” Alcaraz commented. “It’s a pleasure every time I share the court with him…. It’s great every time I face him.”
