The French Open announced its wild-card recipients earlier this week and Dominic Thiem is not on the list.
Thiem, who is a two-time runner-up at Roland Garros, recently announced his retirement at the end of this season. The 30-year-old Australian is ranked No. 117 in the world, so he will still comfortably make it into qualifying for the season’s second Grand Slam.
Other players who requested a wild card but did not have it granted were Diego Schwartzman, Simona Halep, Caroline Wozniacki, and Emma Raducanu.
Here are the main-draw wild cards for the 2024 French Open:
Women’s
Alize Cornet (FRA)
Fiona Ferro (FRA)
Elsa Jacquemot (FRA)
Kristina Mladenovic (FRA)
Chloe Paquet (FRA)

Men’s

was never any reason to think Thiem (or the others) would get one
FO always gives it to French players (plus the reciprocal agreements) and is well within its rights to do so
Yeah, Wimbledon does the same, prioritises Bruts. But am still sad.
I get that a tournament prioritises their own. But these reciprocal agreements letting no hoper players play from abroad are wrong. It’s absurd that Walton, Vickery and De Alboran get them and Thiem and Simona don’t given their stellar record on clay.
Don’t think Raducanu has much of a case to expect one.
If you think carefully about it I’m sure you can understand the rationale behind their decision making.
