Doha final preview and prediction: Rublev vs. Moutet

Andrey Rublev and Corentin Moutet will take the court in Doha to decide who will take the first title of the 2020 season. Both men played two matches on Friday to reach the final.

Andrey Rublev, the Doha No. 2 seed, will take on surprise finalist Corentin Moutet for the first title of 2020. Rublev, who has breezed through the draw this week, has looked like the player to beat, but it was Moutet who dispatched the big names

Rublev’s path to the final includes wins over the likes of Mikhail Kukushkin, Pierre-Hugues Herbert, and Miomir Kecmanovic. Moutet came up through qualifying, then he took out Tennys Sandgren, Milos Raonic, Fernando Verdasco, and tournament top seed Stanislas Wawrinka.

The Frenchman’s week has been considerably more impressive, but he has also played six matches while Rublev has played three. And since both men played two matches on Friday thanks to a washout on Thursday, fatigue will almost certainly be a factor for Moutet on Saturday.

Moutet surely had the week of his tennis career. The win over Wawrinka was particularly notable and could mean good things this season for the 20-year-old. Unfortunately, a well-rested and in form Rublev most likely means that the underdog will have to wait a little longer for his first tour title.

Cheryl pick: Rublev in 2
