2017 Davis Cup World Group draw revealed

The International Tennis Federation announced the draw for the 2017 Davis Cup World Group on Thursday afternoon in London. Argentina and Croatia are automatically the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds as this year’s two finalists and are therefore on opposite sides of the bracket.

Croatia will host Spain, which is back in the World Group after having been demoted in 2016. The Argentines, who will be on the road for the Davis Cup final in November, will host Italy.

First round (3-5 February)

Argentina [s] [c] vs. Italy

Germany [c] vs. Belgium [s]

Australia [c] vs. Czech Republic [s]

USA [c] vs. Switzerland [s]

Japan [c] vs. France [s]

Canada [c] [*] vs. Great Britain [s]

Serbia [s] [c] vs. Russia

Croatia [s] [c] vs. Spain

The United States will host Switzerland after it guaranteed a return trip to the World Group by winning at Australia during first-round action this season. As for the Swiss, they had to play their way back into the main draw and did so by beating Uzbekistan in a playoff tie last week.

  1. I know I’m being pedantic but the noun for people from Argentina is Argentinians not Argentines. An Argentine is a small silver fish 🙂
