Bryan Brothers, Isner, Querrey play for charity in Atlanta

***By Vicki Hensley, special to the Grandstand***

On Friday night Bob and Mike Bryan hosted a charity event at the Atlanta Athletic Club, joined by fellow Americans John Isner and Sam Querrey. Despite the fact that the temperature plunged to 34 degrees and fans were bundled up like they were bracing for snow, the stands were packed and the evening was thoroughly enjoyable.

As it was a charitable event, I knew the guys would not be playing at full force–but there were some fantastic moments. Isner hit a cross-court forehand that I think had jets on it! I’d never seen any ball hit that hard and fast up close. Yes, I was impressed. Querrey was hitting a slice forehand that spins and stays low over the net. TV cameras, in my opinion, cannot pick up the beauty of that shot. The Bryan Borthers were speedy quick; the way they can cut off angles at the net and the speed at which they do so is impressive.

The most delightful part I witnessed was the camaraderie between the guys. It was apparent that they are all good friends. The ease they showed teasing and taking jabs at one another is reminiscent of how families react to one another. It was refreshing to see another side of Bob, Mike, John, and Sam. They were funny and got the crowd, balls-kids, and linespeople all involved!

It was definitely a great, fun evening and I hope to attend another one soon!
