50 Comments on Daily picks

  1. Karlovic over Nishioka in 2 (the classic win in two tight TB for DoctorIvo)
Thiem over Chardy in 2 (i always have difficulties to predict Thiem’s match but here he must win quite easily)
Goffin over Khachanov in 2 (i think Khachanov hasn’t enough confidence atm to worry Goffin)
Tsonga over Fognini in 2 (you never know with CrazyFabio but Tsonga is at his best atm)
Isner over Kukushkin in 2 (BigJohn needs this win too much to lose)
Dolgopolov over Kolschreiber in 3 (Dolgo is on fire and Kohl may still think about his match against Murray)
Berdych over Fratangelo in 2 (Berdy should cruise here)
Lajovic over Lopez in 3 (Lopes isn’t doing a great year so far, i think Lajovic has a huge shot here)
Carreno Busta over Gojowczyk in 2 (it may be more complicated than expected but i’m still picking PCB to win in 2 tight set)
Bautista over Mannarino in 2 (Mannarino can take a set but not the match for me)
Dzumhur over Ramos in 3 (let’s see if Dzumhur can take another big win)
Monfils over King in 2 (obvious pick)
Zverev over Sousa in 3 (i think Zverev can do some damage here with his serve&volley game)
Klizan over Cuevas in 2 (the good Klizan will win easily according to me, the bad one will lose easily, so it could although be Cuevas in 2)
Wawrinka over Lorenzi in 3 (Wawrinka is always in danger in the beginning of a tournament)
Murray over Pospisil in 2 (obvious pick)

    • Unfortunately, that’s not quite what I picked for my Bracket, but at this point I agree with the changes: Dzumhur over Ramos an Lajovic over Lopez.

Monfils vs King might be a tighter match than it appears. After watching Pospisil’s first match, I think there’s a chance Vasek gets a set …maybe.

      Kohls v Dog! 🍿

  2. Saturday (haven’t seen any results yet):
Murray over Pospisil in 2 (Murray should win fairly routinely)
Lopez over Lajovic in 3 (feli on upset alert but still the favorite here)
Carreno Busta over Gojowyczk in 3 (PCB is a solid favorite but the german has a shot)
Bautista Agut over Mannarino in 2 (RBA so solid)
Goffin over Khachanov in 2 (same as above)
Ramos-Vinolas over Dzumhur in 2 (Dzumhur could be fatigued)
Klizan over Cuevas in 3 (Krazy Klizan can get this done)
Tsonga over Fognini in 2 (Tsonga is on fire)
Wawrinka over Lorenzi in 2 (Stan should get through easy)
Dolgopolov over Kohlschreiber in 3 (Dolgopolov is playing awesome)
Karlovic over Nishioka in 3 (ivo is in a slump but this is a solid draw although he’s not a lock at all)
Berdych over Fratangelo in 2 (too much firepower)
Monfils over King in 2 (la monf with a nice draw)
Isner over Kukushkin in 2 (can Isner get his season going?)
    M. Zverev over Sousa in 2 (two tight sets for MZ)
Thiem over Chardy in 2 (Thiem is in solid form)

  3. Evans over Nishikori in 3 (it’s now or never for Evans to taking down Nishi. The Jap hasn’t start the year well and is in danger here. It really could be an upset for me)
Zverev over Bagnis in 2 (obvious pick)
Muller over Vesely in 2 (i think Vesely can take a set but not the match)
Pouille over Struff in 2 (i see Pouille making a run here)
Jaziri over Granollers in 3 (the Jaz ‘ has another good shot to take another big win)
Dimitrov over Youzhny in 2 (i think the old Russian can take a set but definitely not the match.
Nadal over Pella in 2 (obvious pick)
Querrey over Young in 2 (i’m a bit anxious about this one because it’s always hard to start a tournament after a title)
Del Potro over Delbonis in 2 (obvious pick)
Kyrgios over Zeballos in 2 (KingKyrgios seems to have take CrazyKirgios’ place)
Djokovic over Edmund in 2 (last year i was thinking that Edmund could worry Djoko at USO, it was a blowout. I will not make the same mistake here)
Johnson over Anderson in 3 (home support but it could be not enough as Anderson leads the head to head 4-3 and have already beat two times Johnson in USA)
Herbert over Verdasco in 3 (i know it’s bold but Herbert is making a good year and i think he has really a shot)
Cilic over Fritz in 2 (CIlic needs to make a good tournament and i think he will)
Sock over Laaksonen in 2 (obvious pick)
Robert over Federer in 2 without losing more than 2-4 games (it’s a joke, i still have my brain in my head – Fedex in 2 : obvious pick)

  4. Sunday:
Cilic over Fritz in 3 (wouldn’t surprise me to see THF beat the ice cold Cilic but Fritz hasn’t exactly been fantastic lately either)
Jaziri over Granollers in 2 (good draw for Malek)
Sock over Laaksonen in 2 (j sizzle ftw)
Dimitrov over Youzhny in 2 (Dimitrov can do some big things in IW)
Pouille over Struff in 3 (struff has the firepower to score an upset but Pouille likely stays more solid in big moments)
Querrey over Young in 2 (can’t go against his form)
Muller over Vesely in 2 (Gilles should get through at least this round)
Nishikori over Evans in 2 (I predict a Kei rebound this tournament)
Nadal over Pella in 2 (Rafa should cruise)
Verdasco over Herbert in 2 (Nando is in great form)
Johnson over Anderson in 2 (Stevie J to win in two tight ones over the rusty South African)
Federer over Robert in 2 (not gonna say duh like I did when he lost to Donskoy but come on this is obvious)
Kyrgios over Zeballos in 2 (NK has served so well last few weeks)
Zverev over Bagnis in 2 (easy win for AZ)
Del Potro over Delbonis in 2 (Del Po could do serious damage in this draw)
Djokovic over Edmund in 2 (what happened with Murray prob won’t happen again but Edmund taking a set isn’t out of the question considering his forehand is huge and djoker isn’t the same guy right now though I’m still backing Nole to win in two)

  5. Monday:
Pospisil over Lajovic in 3 (this could be a letdown loss for pospy but Lajovic is a great draw and Vasek’s serve will help a lot)
Bautista Agut over Carreno Busta in 3 (they’ve had close matches in the past and I think this one is no different)
Goffin over Ramos-Vinolas in 2 (Goffin’s ability to take ball early will unsettle the Spaniard)
Fognini over Cuevas in 3 (fog is all of a sudden in good form and Cuevas is a solid draw for the Italian)
Wawrinka over Kohlschreiber in 2 (head 2 head)
Berdych over Nishioka in 3 (Nishioka has nothing to lose so I give him a set but not the match)
Isner over Monfils in 2 (monf not looking good health wise and Isner is awesome in IW)
Thiem over Zverev in 2 (Thiem edges this one in two tight sets)

  6. Thiem over Zverev in 3 (i think Mischa has a shot but i see him to miss it shortly)
PCB over Bautista in 3 (very hard pick between the two Spaniards, i think PCB is just a bit more solid atm)
Berdych over Nishioka in 2 (i don’t see an upset at all here)
Pospisil over Lajovic in 2 (the conditions seem to suit just perfectly to Pospisil this year here)
Goffin over Ramos in 2 (Goffin has a big chance to make a deep run into the tournament)
Wawrinka over Kohlschreiber in 3 (Kohl has proven against Murray that he could be close to beat the top-players, so i don’t think it will be easy for Wawa but i think he will escape somehow anyway)
Fognini over Cuevas in 2 (the FabulousFog who beat Tsonga will win easily but will it be him here ?)
Monfils over Isner in 3 (i think BigJohn can take a set, probably a TB, but not the match even if it’s not the better Monfils since here this year)

  7. Sock vs Laaksonen was a great match. I thought Sock was too rattled and wasn’t going to get the W. Laaksonen had some pretty impressive moments. Dimitrov will take down Sock in 2 sets…

Fritz looked strong last night and I’ll take him over Jaziri in 3.

  8. BNP Paribas Open‏:”Roberto Bautista-Agut has withdrawn from the #BNPPO17 due to an abdominal injury. Carreno Busta gets a walkover into the 4R.”

            • I was really impressed with Popsy in his win over Murray. I have never really paid much attention to him or particularly warmed up to him, but he showed me something in that match. I was impressed and happy to see h finding his game again.

            • Me too! Completely taken by surprise by Pospy, who is ranked…I don’t know. He’s fallen way out of the top 100. And I think of him mainly as a doubles player. He had to qualify to play IW. So he was match grooved but I didn’t expect him to beat Andy, even if Andy wasn’t at 100%.

  9. Tuesday:
Nadal over Verdasco in 3 (this will be an exciting one which I think Rafa will just edge although the upset is possible)
Federer over Johnson in 2 (Fed should get through relatively easily)
Kyrgios over Zverev in 2 (serve)
Del Potro over Djokovic in 3 (djoker isn’t in form and Del Po plays well in IW)
Fritz over Jaziri in 3 (crowd support is key)
Dimitrov over Sock in 2 (sock looked shaky last round and grigor is unbelievable this season)
Pouille over Young in 2 (Pouille hasn’t ever lost a set to DY and the Frenchman is regaining the kind of form he was in through much of last year)
Nishikori over Muller in 2 (I had Kei in semis here and I still think it is very possible)

  10. Nadal over Verdasco in 3 (i think Nando has a shot, he play very well this year so far and didn’t do this kind of game where he just make UE after UE. But Nadal is another beast even if he has to do way better than against Pella or in that double match of yesterday)
Federer over Johnson in 2 (Fedex should win pretty easily, i don’t think Johnson has the weapons to worry him atm)
Kyrgios over Zverev in 3 (like i said two days ago, KingKyrgios seems to have take CrazyKyrgios’ place)
Djokovic over Del Potro in 3 (their last encounter at Acapulco suggest that DelPo has a shot, but he was really moving badly against Delbonis, so i give Djoko the edge + i really like Djoko’s attitude yesterday in the double match)
Jaziri over Fritz in 3 (they have both a good shot but i give Jaziri the edge because he hasn’t lose against a player outside the top 50 this year so fare + Fritz may feel some pressure in a match where he is maybe the favorite + i just look Cilic stat in their match (that i haven’t see) : only 52% first service, 5/13 on break points, 8 double faut. I think the Jaz’ is way more reliable than this atm)
Dimitrov over Sock in 2 (Dimitrov plays like a number one this year and i’m really exciting to see what he will do and at which place he will finish the year)
Pouille over Young in 2 (Young might take a set but not the match according to me, i’m alrealdy waiting on popcorn match between Pouille and Nishikori to said the truth, maybe i shouldn’t)
Nishikori over Muller in 2 (same as above, Muller can take a set but not the match i think)

  11. Great win for the Jaz’. I’m happy for him and i’m satisfied to have found what kind of game it would be.
In the opposite, i’m so disappointed about Pouille who completly missed his match. In fact I don’t even think that Young played well. Nishikori will probably destroy him now.

  12. Wow that’s a stinging loss for Dimitrov. Up 0-40 on sock’s serve at 5-4 so that was three match points and he got none of them then had one more match point up 7-6 in third set breaker and lost it 9-7. Also up 3-0 with the break in that final set too.

    • Sock had to dig deep to beat Dimi. The key was Sock being down 0-40 and fighting back to hold serve. He showed some grit and mental toughness when it counted.

  13. Nadal over Federer in 3
    Djokovic over Kyrgios in 2
    Nishikori over Young in 2
    Jaziri over Sock in 3
Lajovic over Carreno Busta in 3
    Goffin over Cuevas in 2
    Wawrinka over Nishioka in 2
    Thiem over Monfils in 3

  14. Fed over Rafa in 3 (I think Roger’s serve will be the difference)
Kyrgios over Djoker in 3 (NK has served amazing lately and Djoker’s return was sloppy through most of the Del Po match)
Thiem over Monfils in 3 (H2H edge and Thiem is playing a bit more solid atm)
Goffin over Cuevas in 2 (great draw for the rock solid Goffin)
Lajovic over PCB in 3 (the unlikely run continues)
Stanimal over Nishioka in 2 (the youngster’s run finally comes to an end)
Jaziri over Sock in 3 (sock should be pretty tired from his evening efforts vs Dimitrov and Jaziri is in red hot form here)
Nishikori over Young in 3 (DY has been inspired in IW so I’ll give him a set but Kei should be too solid to lose the match)

  15. PCB over Lajovic in 2 (i think Lajovic’s run ends here, PCB too much solid for him i think)
Nishikori over Young in 2 (i would be very surprise if Young takes a set)
Goffin over Cuevas in 2 (I think Cuevas might take a set but not the match)
Sock over Jaziri in 3 (the Jaz has made a great run but he hasn’t beat players like Sock, and i don’t think he can)
Djokovic over Kyrgios in 3 (the Kyrgios’ form suggests he has another great shot to beat Djoko, but i have a feeling the Djoker will escape somehow. But for sure they can both win this one)
Nadal over Fed in 3 (honestly i’m a big Fed fan like a lot of people ^^, but i think the conditions suit better to Nadal here. But like in the Djoko/Kyrgios match they have both a shot for sure)
Wawrinka over Nishioka in 2 (Nishioka scored a big upset against Berdych but i don’t think that he could repeat it here)
Monfils over Thiem in 3 (if Monfils plays in the same way he did against Isner i think he will win, but Thiem has a good shot too, very hard to pick in this one)

    I’m happy with my ratio so far : 51-26 / 2 retirements / 1 WO.

  16. Surprised you’re picking Djokovic to beat NK in 2…Djokovic outside of that last set against delpo has looked dire at best, his performance against Edmund was horrendous. if Kyrgios plays up to his level I think he should win this match unless Djokovic finally finds a way to play good tennis which hasn’t been the case these last 7 months.

    • Even though Thiem has done well against Monfils, I am going with Monfils for the win.

Otherwise the rest of my picks are the same.

      • Nny

Yes, Monfils had one shaky match (I think he wasn’t feeling well) and he’s lookin good now…definitly could go either way. Thiem’s my bracket pick.

  17. The real question is…is Djokovic gonna win a set against Kyrgios before he retires? the french open win has really ruined him, he is not even playing top10 tennis anymore

  18. Bad loss for Goffin. He still has a big step to pass to be part of the best players. He keeps losing game he shouldn’t.
On the opposite Sock takes a big win again Jaziri. It was a great draw but he had to fight hard even if he was tired by his win over Dimitrov and he did. Congrats. I’m exciting to see him against Nishikori.

    • Stan in three over Thiem. I think he will step it up as he usually does later in the event and come through in the big moments to notch a big win. Other QF for tomorrow I have Cuevas over PCB in 3. This match is a really tough call for me. I just have a feeling Cuevas will continue this stunning run with another three set victory. PCB could take it too of course but I think Cuevas’ momentum will help him to score another huge victory here at IW.

  19. Think Thiem will win this in 2, not sure Stan really has decided to play well yet and eventhough he usually does once he gets deep but hes never made it further than the QF in IW so I like Thiem a good bit.

Also think Cuevas should beat PCB if both men play up to their talent…although that is hard to say given that Gof played horrendously s far and PCB has faced nothing yet in this tourney. ill say cuevas in 3
