The Week 2 lineup at Wimbledon will be set following the conclusion of play on Saturday, when a couple of all-seeded showdowns are on the menu. It’s Flavio Cobolli vs. Karen Khachanov and Alexander Bublik vs. Frances Tiafoe.
(19) Karen Khachanov vs. (9) Flavio Cobolli
Cobolli is looking to build on a recent run to the French Open final and also trying to defend quarterfinal points from last year at Wimbledon. He current finds himself in the third round, with Khachanov standing in his way of the second week on Saturday. Surprisingly, Cobolli and Khachanov have gone head-to-head on just one previous occasion — when the Russian prevailed 7-5, 6-4 on the red clay of Madrid in 2024.
The tide could turn on a Grand Slam stage at the All-England Club. Cobolli has now reached at least the third round and five of the last six majors, including his particularly impressive performances at Roland Garros and Wimbledon. Khachanov, on the other hand, has advanced past the third round of a slam only once since the 2024 Australian Open. That is an alarming drought for a players whose talent and ranking should lead to far better efforts on the big stage. Both guys have been playing well this week, but Cobolli has the check mark in the intangibles category given the setting.
Pick: Cobolli in 5
(17) Frances Tiafoe vs. (10) Alexander Bublik
Bublik and Tiafoe will be squaring off for the fifth time in their careers on Saturday. The head-to-head series is all tied up 2-2 and they split their two previous grass-court contests. Bublik prevailed in three sets at the 2022 Eastbourne event before Tiafoe got the job done in four sets one week later in the Wimbledon third round.
Not unlike Khachanov, Bublik should be posting far better results at Grand Slams. The 10th-seeded Kazakh has reached just one slam quarterfinal in his entire career (2025 French Open) and has lost in the first round at eight of the last 15 majors. It is a much different story for Tiafoe, who thrives at the most important tournaments in the world. The 28-year-old American is a two-time slam semifinalist and has reached the quarters on three other occasions. He is also in outstanding form right now, having recently captured the biggest title of his career on the lawns of Halle. Tiafoe should have the edge in this one.
Pick: Tiafoe in 5
