  1. Thanks for the update. A lot has happened since I last checked in. I saw the last two sets of Alcaraz and Struff. Getting pushed by a guy ranked 155?

So Cilic withdrew because of Covid. Hmmm. It seems like Rafa’s draw just opened up a bit. You just never know.

Hurkacz was a surprise since he won Halle, but these young guys seem to have a problem with consistency and showing up at slams. I believe he was knocked out early at the AO. I think he was a possible early round opponent for Rafa there.

    • Hurkacz has a great game for grass and did well last Wimbledon. He wasnt in good form earlier this year. Davidovich is a really good player .

    • NNY, Struff is an excellent player! He has such a low rank because he was injured for a while. In Germany he used to be the second in command behind Zverev. Before the match against Alcaraz he promised to fight until the very end, and he kept his word. Good for Alcaraz, though, that he managed to overcome this first difficult hurdle. Many of the previous generation of highly praised young guns used to exit the slams early and often against low-ranked players. They had not learned to motivate themselves when they did not play against top players, and they could not handle best-of-five matches. Right now we still need to see how Alcaraz will handle Wimby, but unlike Huge Hubert he made it into the second round!
This year’s Wimby is getting crazier and crazier! Has there ever been a year with such a depleted field??? Cilic has won a slam already, and he has already been in a Wimby final, and he played well lately. He wasn’t even a dark horse!

  2. Well I didn’t see the match, so I will have to take your word for it. Davidovich is a good player. I do agree with that. Hurkacz beat Meddy at Halle. So he obviously has the game for grass. I just think that some of these young guys are not ready in the first round of a slam if they get a tough opponent.

Slams are a lot different than tournaments like Halle. But this is a learning experience and I expect him to gain experience.

  3. Well he did well last Wimby. But then so did Shapo and never one to bet my house on.But it’s not unusual for even the great players to be taken to five in round 1 or go out early at Wimby.

  4. Yes, Rafa is playing an unknown today, well someone I’ve never heard of. Hope Rafa plays well today and give me no panic attack! 😄

Not many great matches today but Kyrios is playing today. Didn’t realize Lopez was still playing tennis, lol!

    • Oooooh!!!! Yes, Covid is rampant I hear in UK!!! Dimi too sustained groin injury after going up a set! Sad, he was playing well. This can happen so easily to anyone!!

  5. I heard that Berrettini also has Covid19 and has to withdraw. My goodness, why is the virus spreading among the players?

I hope the players do wear masks when they’re moving around and especially when in the locker room. I hope Rafa is fine ( and not only him but all the other players too!).

    • We posted this at the same time! This year’s Wimby is spooky, to sa the least! Berrettiniwas doing so well…

    • VR,

I was wondering where you were. Lucky, too. Both of you are here!

I be’eve that getting through the first week is the key. Rafa needs to get his grass game back after 3 years. It showed in the match with Cerendolo. Is that his name? Rafa needed some time on the court and this guy at least made the effort to do his best.

The ESPN commies are all praising Novak to the heavens for his one sided victory over Kokkinakis! LOL! Oh yes what a great accomplishment. They are acting like Novak winning is a done deal.

Rafa is going to have something to say about that!

  6. Cilic out, berretini out. Virus striked again. Both Rafa and Novak have practiced with these guys. Hoping no more withdrawals from the tournament due to the infection

Rafa can go deep here but i would give novak the biggest chance to win wimbledon again.

    • Vrael, I agree! Novak still has the biggest chance to win another Wimby title, and his draw isn’t exactly aw-inspiring and one serious contender- Huge Hubert – is out already.
The bottom draw looked a lot more challenging – but that has slightly changed after Cilic and Berrettini dropped out with
a Covid infection! Maybe, the virus is nore challenging than any individual player. Rafa and Novak practiced with Cilic btw…

  7. The gorgeous Matteo is out! Am sorry because I really like him.
Am getting worried for Rafa now. Hope he is being careful because this is clearly spreading through the players and others will probably go out.
I was thinking only yesterday that people were being way too casual and assuming they were safe when in fact it was estimated 1 in 7 people in the UK last week had covid! It’s rampant here again. I am very very careful and avoid public places.
I hope Rafa stays in his own group and they are all very careful. Being vaccinated won’t protect you from new variants.

    • Wondering if players got it at Queens. Both Gorgeous and Cilic played there. We had the same super spreader event in Abu Dhabi when loads of players got it before Xmas.
But Rafa was practising with Matteo and taking selfies a few days ago…
At least they were outside. It’s inside which is really dangerous.

  8. Woah!! This is crazy but they must have been tested before start of play so they must have got it at Wimby!! This does not sound good, hope Rafa is ok.

    Meanwhile, the curious case of Kyrios! He’s been mumbling throughout his match, complaining about e v e r y t h i n g!! Sigh!

    • Rafa has a lot of people with him as several of his friends are with him. I really hope that they are not out seeing the sights. London has been the epi centre for covid since the beginning so the prevalence there must be very high.
Time to go back to wearing masks and staying in bubbles.
      Otherwise it’s very high risk.

  9. I’m watching tennis on a streaming site and the comments r hilarious!! They’re saying they’re sure Novak has Covid bcoz he was practicing with Cilic. So someone commented it’s not like they made out after practice!! 😂🤣🤣🤣🤣 But someone also commented that Rafa also took selfie with Mateo so who knows what happens in the next few days! I can’t c this ending well. 😞

    • This is crazy! Testing should be mandatory!!! If a player has only mild symptoms, he or she might decide not to get tested in order to stay in the tournament. I have encountered exactly that behavior amongst people I know! They got mild symptoms but decided not to get tested because the didn’t want to jeopardise whatever they had planned for the upcoming weeks…

      • It seems Matteo withdrew so as not to give the virus to others. Very admirable.
Cilic withdrew because he was too sick to play..

      • This is shocking. I just heard about Berrettini. It could be going around. Others could get it. I don’t know why they don’t have testing. People are getting careless.

  10. RBA is out with covid!
Evidently more people will go out. It’s clearly circulating. Bad news…
I really hope Rafa and his team are being careful…I know Rafa is generally very careful in relation to covid..
