U.S. Open announces official entry lists for men’s and women’s singles

Monday, when this week’s new ATP and WTA rankings were confirmed, marked the entry deadline for the 2026 U.S. Open. On Tuesday, tournament organizers confirmed the initial entry lists for men’s and women’s singles.

Among those in the men’s field are No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz and No. 80 Holger Rune. It goes without saying than an initial entry list is nothing close to confirmation of participation, but at least they have not withdrawn…yet.

Sidelined by a wrist injury, Alcaraz has not played since the Barcelona Open in April — when he took a medical timeout during a first-round win over Otto Virtanen and then withdrew prior to his next match. The Spaniard had previously finished runner-up to Jannik Sinner at the Monte-Carlo Masters. Alcaraz was recently cleared to resume tennis activities with the hope of playing in Cincinnati and New York, but his exact status is unclear. He has already withdrawn from the first of two hard-court Masters 1000 events in Montreal.

Rune has been out since rupturing an Achilles’ tendon in October of 2025 at the Stockholm ATP 250. The 23-year-old Dane had been hoping to return this summer on either grass or clay, but he decided to play it safe with his comeback timetable.

Eight total players — five women and three men — are using special or protected rankings. That includes Jerry Shang, Thanasi Kokkinakis, and Lois Boisson.
