Novak Djokovic is steadily making his way to his fourth consecutive slam final at the U.S. Open. The Serb, who pocketed the Australian and French Open titles in 2023, will face top American Taylor Fritz next.
To say that the matchup with Novak Djokovic has been unkind to Taylor Fritz would be understating the case. The term “brutal” might be a better descriptor of the 7-0 non-rivalry. The world No. 9 ran into Djokovic just a couple weeks ago for the seventh time in Cincinnati. Djokovic dished out a proper straight-set shellacking (including one bagel).
Fritz has hardly ever even gotten close to beating Djokovic, except a notable match at the 2021 Australian Open. Djokovic had a two-set lead when Fritz mounted a comeback. The American leveled the match at two sets apiece, but an abdominal injury threw him off and he lost a heartbreaker 6-2 in the fifth.
While Fritz has done well at this year’s edition of the U.S. Open, by far the best result in New York, it’s hard to imagine him getting through this match. His brand of big-serving tennis doesn’t much faze Djokovic. The Serb hasn’t been at his very best during the first week of play, but he always brings his best form at the business end of majors.
Look for Djokovic to kick it up a gear in this quarterfinal. The world No. 2 (soon-to-be No. 1) should manage to prevail in routine straight sets.

Not doubting the outcome, but I will point out that Joker has spent almost 10 hours on the court through round four compared to less than 7 for Fritz. Fritz hasn’t dropped a set.
I doubt Djokovic is expecting it to be that easy. He knows he has to raise his level.
You’re not pulling the wool over his eyes. He listens and takes everything in but he still works it out himself.
Did you expect him to see 3:0 and then think it will be an easy match and then get ambushed.
You don’t win 20+ majors if you’re that naive.
