Learner Tien’s breakthrough 2025 campaign continued with his first ATP title at the Moselle Open on Saturday afternoon. Tien came back from 5-1 down in the third-set tiebreaker to beat Cameron Norrie 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(6).
The 19-year-old American reeled off five points in a row to seize a 6-5 advantage in the ‘breaker. He missed his first championship point but capitalized on a second opportunity at 7-6 to get across the finish line in two hours and 10 minutes.
“I never take it for granted, just coming out here and competing,” Tien said during the trophy ceremony. “So holding this trophy just means the world to me, and I’m just really grateful. I want to thank my team, the ones that are here, the ones that are at home, for all the support, for everything this whole year and always.”
With his triumph in Metz, Tien climbed 10 spots to a career-high ranking of No. 28 in the world. He is almost guaranteed to be seeded at the 2026 Australian Open.
The left-hander still has one event left on his 2025 schedule–if he decides to play. He is currently No. 3 in the race to the NextGen ATP Finals, trailing only Jakub Mensik and Joao Fonseca. Tien finished runner-up to Fonseca at the 2024 event, so he may be inclined to make a repeat appearance in Jeddah in hopes of going one step further.
