Rafael Nadal and Daniil Medvedev produced yet another instant classic in a Grand Slam final, this one at the Australian Open. Nadal’s comeback from two sets down gave him slam title No. 21, surpassing Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. It prevented Medvedev from becoming the first man to follow up his maiden Grand Slam title by winning the very next major.

The tennis world reacted on social media to Nadal’s 2-6, 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-4, 7-5 triumph that lasted five hours and 24 minutes.

  1. I’m just glad people have the right to think for themselves. For every amount that disagree, there’s an equal amount that will disagree for a host of reasons that might involve deeper analysis than you give them credit for.

You should stop trying to tell people how to think with your propaganda and spend more time trying to understand their point of view.

  2. BTW, people will say anything in public because they feel obligated, and it’s bad business not to, so using people’s tweets as a guide to public sentiment is incredibly ignorant and very naive.

Just like your history books that you think means so much when you’re dead.

  3. For someone that lives a very unchristian, demonic (no pun intended Dimon) life, you certainly place a lot of value in christian beliefs. I.e. what you do in life matters and lingers in the after-life.

Only a slight amount of hypocrisy in your belief system.

  4. Thanks Ricky. I missed some of those and I spent Sunday just reading articles and tweets about Rafa’s 21.

Do you envision Rafa doing a calendar year Grand Slam? Why am I asking you, you thought he would lose the final 🀯

BTW, do you know what Guest and Anonymous are babbling about? Spill the beans β€˜cause I’m inquisitive.

    • Put simply, people follow in droves. Oh, if that’s what everyone else does, I must do it also. Why do think social media has been so successful?

      FOLLOWERS!!!!!!

  5. Seems very sad Manolo Santana isn’t one of the greats commenting on Rafa’s win. He and Rafa were so close…
Rod Laver wrote a lovely tweet praising Rafa so it would be good to have that included…

  6. I saw some of the interview with Novax and Vucic. Honestly I think Novax is completely losing his hold on reality; he seems to have zero idea of how solipsistic he comes across.
Vucic says Novax will win all the 3 remaining grand slams this year with Novax beaming. Please please Rafa manage your schedule in the run up to RG. I wasn’t following Rafa back in 2009 but I seem to have memories of people on here saying Rafa over-played after the AO and that may have contributed to the knee injury.
He has to beat Novax at RG!

    • What startles me is how can a PM of a country even talk such stuff. I mean you are supposed to talk responsible being a PM. Is this guy popular in Serbia ? I really doubt ,he does not seen a good leader at all based on some of the immature statements he makes

  7. Yes Amy, In 2009, he was winning all until RG including Indian Wells. Madrid semi vs Nole was long and hard fight. I hope Moya manages the schedule well this year.

    • I hope Moya lays down the law he can’t play too much Raj! We don’t want a repeat of last year when the foot just went at the end of the clay season.
He has to be fit to face Novax at RG!πŸ˜€

      • True, as of now, his immediate schedule includes Acapulco & IW. He might pull out of Acapulco. I wish he plays Miami instead of IW. Humidity sucks but he can give one more shot atleast

      • I’m sure Rafa will get input from his team but he’s the one who will make the schedule decisions. He won’t play Miami. He loves both Acapulco and IW, I think IW for the golf but if he isn’t fully recovered from AO he’ll skip it.

      • amy,

I remember what happened in 2009. I could not believe Rafa played Rotterdam a week later. They said he played on one leg.

I had a bad feeling about it. He just kept going like he was the energizer bunny. Bye there were rumors starting to come out that all was not well in Camp Nadal.

The worst decision was to play in Madrid. We knew later that his knees were bothering him. He won the match with Novak, but it cost him dearly.

I knew something was not right when he played Lleyton Hewitt at RG. I remember thinking that he would have to play much better. But when he played Soderling in the next round, I knew something was seriously wrong. His movement was compromised.

We all know what happened next. Out for a few months with tendinitis. But Rafa learned a hard lesson. After that he started making some changes to his schedule.,

Rafa will listen to his body. He won’t overdo it.

        • Nny, I really hope so! I pretty much remember reading on site here that he played so soon after AO 2009. I think it was lucky referencing what a bad decision it was.
That’s why I would rather he had a break before IW.
He has to be careful! He

  8. I loved it! Seeing all the heartache at the AO over the years. I remember watching Rafa leave the arena after Wawrinka won the final. A freak back injury that time. The camera followed him off the court into the hallway and then he put his face in his hand and started sobbing so hard. I couldn’t sleep that night. For years I was haunted by that image. I cried right along with him.

But now I can let go of the pain. Finally. With this win I don’t have to be haunted by the past anymore.
