Serena Williams is pregnant.
The 23-time Grand Slam champion announced her pregnancy on Wednesday via her favorite social media network, Snapchat. “20 weeks,” she wrote, while also providing a photo. Williams deleted the post shortly thereafter, casting at least some doubt on its truth.
“We have not been informed nor do we have confirmation [that Serena is pregnant],” the WTA said in a statement. “We will let you know once we have further information.”
That tune changed on Wednesday night, when a spokeswoman for Williams confirmed the news. Kelly Bush Novak wrote in an email to various media outlets Wednesday, “I’m happy to confirm Serena is expecting a baby this fall.”
Williams got engaged to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian this past December. She has not played since winning the Australian Open. Likely due in September, the current world No. 2–who will return to the top spot next week–says she plans to return in 2018.
