Outside of Grand Slams and Masters 1000s, the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament may feature the most impressive player field of any event on the entire 2023 ATP calendar.
In the original draw of 32 men when the festivities kicked off on Monday afternoon, it included nine of the top 17 players in the world. Jannik Sinner, who is currently ranked 14th following his title last week in Montpellier, is not even seeded in Rotterdam. That’s because guys like Stefanos Tsitsipas, Andrey Rublev, Felix Auger-Aliassime, and Holger Rune are ahead of him.
There are all kinds of contenders who have a real chance to lift the trophy on Sunday, but we believe Rune will be there in the end to host the trophy.
Why Rune Will Win
Rune probably has the best draw of anyone in the field. Alexander Zverev is the other seeded player in Rune’s section of the bracket and Zverev just recently returned from the ankle injury he sustained at the 2022 French Open that kept him out for the rest of the season. In addition to a favorable draw, Rune is also in great form. The 19-year-old Dane is up to ninth in the rankings and a big reason for his climb is a triumph at the 2022 Paris Masters (upset Novak Djokovic in the final). That event is played in indoor hard courts just like this one in Rotterdam, so Rune has to be feeling good about his prospects.
At the time of writing this article, Rune will face Gijs Brouwer in R16 of the tournament.
