Carlos Alcaraz clinched the year-end No. 1 ranking after going 3-0 in his round-robin group at the Nitto ATP Finals.

It has been a season highlighted by two more Grand Slam titles for the Spaniard, giving him six already in his career. He triumphed at the French Open and Wimbledon while also finishing runner-up to chief rival Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon.

Alcaraz’s road to the top spot certainly got a big assist from Sinner, who was suspended for three months from February through April stemming from a positive doping test in 2024. Things probably would have been much different had Sinner played the entirety of the 2025 campaign.

Still, it is a well-deserved and hard-earned honor for Alcaraz–the second of his career after also finishing No. 1 in 2022 (it was Novak Djokovic in 2023 and Sinner in 2024). The 22-year-old captured eight titles, including three Masters 1000s and three ATP 500s to go along with is two majors. He is owns a 70-8 match record heading into the Turin semifinals.

Alcaraz is just the second active player with multiple year-end No. 1s (Djokovic has eight). He is the 11th player all time to pocket multiple year-end No. 1s on the ATP Tour.

“Ending the season as the No. 1 player in the world is an incredible achievement–one that only 19 players have accomplished in more than 50 years of history,” ATP chairman Andrea Gaudenzi stated. “To do it twice by the age of 22 makes it even more special. It speaks not only to Carlos’ exceptional talent, but to his relentless drive to improve and his determination to compete against the very best. He should be immensely proud of what he’s achieved, and we look forward to watching him continue to inspire fans around the world.”

Alcaraz awaits either Alexander Zverev or Felix Auger-Aliassime in the semis of the Nitto ATP Finals on Saturday. Sinner will face Alex de Minaur.
