Paire-Wawrinka team take Chennai by storm

Call them what you will: BenWa, PaWa, Pairinka, Prinka, Staire, Stanoit…. Whatever they are, they are must-see television whenever they take the court…. Or whenever they take to twitter.

That certainly was the case in Chennai, where they captured their first ATP doubles title. Paire and Wawrinka may be better known for off-the-court entertainment, but they certainly have a flair for the dramatic on the court as well. They won their first three matches in super-tiebeakers before destroying  Andre Begemann and Martin Emmrich for the title.

But let’s not forget that the week started with a cook-off:Cookoff Wawrinka cooking
Paire was fired up for singles and doubles, especially after the dynamic duo beat Sanam Singh and Vishnu Vardhan 6-2, 5-7, 10-7 in the first round:

They also had to make time for eating…and even (gasp!) practicing:

Their second-rounder against Rajeev Ram and Rohan Bopanna will go down as one of 2013’s more bizarre scorelines. After getting bageled in the first set, Paire and Wawrinka served up a breadstick in the super-‘breaker (0-6, 6-4, 10-1). They won another thriller over Raven Klaasen and Nicholas Monroe 6-7(9), 6-4, 10-8 in the semis.

Not sure what’s going on here….

The Bromance was also in full force during Paire’s singles matches. Wawrinka, already out of the tournament, turned into coach/fan:

They were all business with a title on the line, cruising to a 6-2, 6-1 victory.

Well, there was a little bit of tomfoolery involved:
