Murray rehires Lendl for grass-court swing, starting at Queen’s Club

The Andy Murray-Ivan Lendl partnership is back.

Murray announced on Sunday that the former Czech great is rejoining the Scot’s coaching team, at least for the current grass-court swing–which begins for Murray this week at Queen’s Club and will obviously culminate at Wimbledon.

The world No. 2 enjoyed his two most successful seasons on tour with Lendl, winning Olympic gold at the All-England Club in 2012, the U.S. Open a few weeks later, and Wimbledon in 2013. Murray and Lendl split in March of 2014 before the two-time major champion hired Amelie Mauresmo in June of that year. The Murray-Mauresmo partnership ended last month prior to the French Open.

“I had two very successful years working with Ivan,” Murray explained. “He’s single-minded and knows what it takes to win the big events. I’m looking forward to Ivan joining the team again and helping me try to reach my goals.”

  1. Yes! I came here to see the news about Murray hiring Lendl again! I heard that something might be in the works on tv during RG.

I am very happy for Murray and think that only good things will come out of this renewed partnership. Lendl will add discipline and get Murray mentally tougher.

    Good news!

  2. Hope the new development can give Andy an extra motivation to win more slams, somehow 3 is not very suitable for a player as calibre as him..
