Daniil Medvedev is seeking answers in 2025 and that search will continue at the upcoming Open 13 on the indoor hard courts of Marseille. Medvedev headlines an impressive field as the top seed after taking a late wild card into the ATP 250 event.
The 28-year-old is just 2-2 so far this season with losses to world No. 121 Learner Tien (Australia Open) and world No. 92 Mattia Bellucci (Rotterdam). His only wins have come over world No. 418 Kasidit Samrej (five sets at the Aussie Open) and world No. 155 Stan Wawrinka (three sets in Rotterdam). Medvedev, who also lost four of his last five matches of the 2024 campaign, recently split from coach Gilles Simon. The Russian is still working with Gilles Cervara.
Medvedev did not win a single title last year and he won’t have an easy time of ending that drought in Marseille. The draw also includes Ugo Humbert, Karen Khachanov, Hubert Hurkacz, Sebastian Korda, Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, and Lorenzo Sonego. Among the unseeded entrants are Wawrinka, Botic van de Zandschulp, Alexander Bublik, and Zizou Bergs.
Following a first-round bye, Medvedev could meet Mpetshi Perricard in the quarterfinals and either Khachanov or Korda in the semis.

very disappointed in Stan. 4-1 in second set against Borges, which just now after his Bergs defeat, highlights how poor of a loss that was by Stan, to not seal that second set away. You have 6 or 7 losses in a row and that win was paramount. There is no excuse in that situation. I don’t see Gasquet, Nishikori, or Djoko losing in that spot. As if alarm bells weren’t already ringing, that was a new low, which is really difficult to obtain at this point. But hey, it’s still a great career, no one can take that away from him. Guess he’s doing a final Baghdatis tour or something. Kudos for Andy and Roger walking away when it was time. Don’t see how Stan comes back from this.
Stan may not come back…but not because of this particular match
