Victoria Mboko has been forced to withdraw from the remainder of the grass-court swing following the knee injury she sustained while playing singles at Queen’s Club on Wednesday. Mboko confirmed that the issue is her MCL, but the exact severity of it remains unknown.
“Unfortunately, my fall on Wednesday caused an injury to the MCL on my left knee, which sadly means I will miss the remainder of the grass season,” the 19-year-old Canadian posted on Instagram. “This unfortunately means Wimbledon too, a tournament I had been so looking forward to playing this year.”
Mboko was playing doubles this week with Serena Williams, marking the 44-year-old American’s comeback to tennis after retiring at the 2022 U.S. Open.
“Wishing you a speedy recovery, [Victoria],” Williams wrote on Instagram. “Can’t wait to see you back on court.”
As for the 23-time Grand Slam champion, she will be back on the court at next week’s WTA 500 in Berlin for doubles with Karolina Muchova. The 29-year-old Czech is stellar on grass, having reached the Wimbledon quarterfinals in both 2019 and 2021.
