Mallorca SF previews and predictions: Davidovich Fokina vs. Marozsan, Borges vs. Quinn

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina is potentially two wins away from his first career ATP title, but Fabian Marozsan stands in his way of the Mallorca final. Friday’s semifinal schedule also features a showdown between Nuno Borges and Ethan Quinn.

Marozsan appeared to be on his way out of the Mallorca Championships in the very first round. However, the 62nd-ranked Hungarian saved three match points to beat Alex Molcan and he followed that up with victories over Alejandro Tabilo and Miomir Kecmanovic.

Up next for Marozsan on semifinal Friday is a second meeting with Davidovich Fokina, who won their only previous encounter 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 two years ago in Dubai. The world No. 25 has advanced this week by ousting Adam Walton and Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets, continuing to showcase his comfort on grass. Davidovich Fokina has posted some decent results at Wimbledon over the years — results that would be even better if not for some historic mental meltdowns right at the finish line. That has been the problem for him at the business end of smaller ATP 250 tournaments, as well. If the Spaniard does not get caught up in his golden chance to win this title (and that’s a big “if”), he should advance to the final.

Nuno Borges vs. Ethan Quinn

It will be a first-ever battle between former college stars when Borges (2019 NCAA runner-up for Mississippi State) and Quinn (2023 NCAA champion from Georgia) collide for the first time in their careers. Quinn’s grass-court experience is extremely limited in the formative stages of his career, but early returns are encouraging. The 63rd-ranked American reached the second round of this 2025 Mallorca event as a qualifier, also advanced to the Wimbledon second round, pushed Ben Shelton to three tight sets last week in Halle, and is now through to the semis this week with defeats of Valentin Royer, Murphy Cassone, and Vit Kopriva.

Borges may be at his best on clay, but he is an all-court player who is a solid 8-6 on grass dating back to the start of 2025. The world No. 53 from Portugal took a set off Felix Auger-Aliassime in Halle and has not dropped a single set in Mallorca while disposing of Adrian Mannarino, Jan-Lennard Struff, and Luciano Darderi. Borges has been a superior player all week long and that will likely be the case again on Friday.
