A full schedule of fourth-round action at the Madrid Masters on Tuesday features a top-15 showdown between Lorenzo Musetti and Jiri Lehecka. The winner will face either Arthur Fils or Tomas Martin Etcheverry.
(11) Jiri Lehecka vs. (6) Lorenzo Musetti
Musetti and Lehecka will be squaring off for the fourth time in their careers when they battle for a quarterfinal spot at the Mutua Madrid Open on Tuesday. Lehecka leads the head-to-head series 2-1 with a three-set victory at the 2022 Rotterdam tournament and a straight-set win at the 2023 Miami Masters. However, Musetti prevailed in their only previous clay-court contest — 1-6, 7-5, 6-2 last year in Monte-Carlo.
Musetti’s 2025 clay-court swing featured a runner-up performance in Monte-Carlo and semifinal showings in Madrid, Rome, and Paris. The ninth-ranked Italian has not yet returned to that level this year because of a leg injury, but straight-set wins in Madrid over Hubert Hurkacz and Tallon Griekspoor are encouraging signs. Lehecka is in fine form, but he looked somewhat vulnerable in Monte-Carlo (three-set defeats of Emilio Nava and Alejandro Tabilo plus a straight-set loss to Alexander Bublik) and needed three sets against Tabilo again in the Madrid second round. On clay, a healthy Musetti should have the edge.

(25) Tomas Martin Etcheverry vs. (21) Arthur Fils
Fils is on an impressive hot streak right now, but he has to keep it going if he wants to clinch a top-16 seed for Roland Garros and give himself the best possible chance of getting a decent draw at the season’s second Grand Slam. The 21-year-old Frenchman comes in at 25th in the rankings after missing much of last season with a back injury. Healthy now, Fils is 20-5 in 2026 and has advanced so far in Madrid with victories over Ignacio Buse and Emilio Nava.
Up next for the recent Barcelona champion is a second meeting with Etcheverry, who won their only previous encounter via third-set retirement at the 2022 Savannah Challenger — when Fils was just 17 years old. Etcheverry is obviously running into a much different kind of opponent now. The 29th-ranked Argentine could be up for the challenge thanks to his own current form (20-9 this season with a title in Rio de Janeiro and Madrid wins over Sebastian Ofner and Dino Prizmic). Still, Fils is simply on a different level at the moment and Etcheverry would probably prefer to play in slower conditions.
