With Benoit Paire having all but conceded the point, Nick Kyrgios produced perhaps the miss of the year during his 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 loss in the quarterfinals of the Rakuten Japan Open on Friday. While trying to serve out the opening set, Kyrgios netted a backhand after Paire had already turned his back following a miserable dropshot of the Frenchman’s own.

In all likelihood the error hardly mattered in the overall outcome of the match. Although Kyrgios eventually dropped serve during that game (5-1), he served out the set on his next chance at 5-3.
