The first quarterfinal spots in Kitzbuhel will be handed out on Wednesday, when seeds Arthur Rinderknech and Jan-Lennard Struff take the court. They are going ip against Sebastian Baez and Mariano Navone, respectively.
Sebastian Baez vs. (3) Arthur Rinderknech
Rinderknech and Baez will be going head-to-head for the first time in their careers when they collide in round two of the Generali Open on Wednesday. Whereas Rinderknech earned a bye as the No. 3 seed, Baez battled to a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 victory over Miomir Kecmanovic during first-round action on Tuesday. The 56th-ranked Argentine was predictably hopeless on grass, but he regained some confidence with a quarterfinal effort last week in Bastad (lost to eventual champion Andrey Rublev).
Rinderknech’s post-Wimbledon clay swing began in Gstaad, where he scraped past Clement Tabur 6-7(9), 7-6(5), 7-5 and then lost to eventual champion Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. The 27th-ranked Frenchman has never been much better than mediocre on the red stuff throughout his career, and he compiled a 6-6 record on it during April and May. Only because of the surface, Baez has a very good chance to win this match.
Pick: Baez in 3
(6) Jan-Lennard Struff vs. Mariano Navone
Struff has found his game this summer, and not a moment too soon. The 36-year-old German was struggling down at No. 74 in the world with only seven main-tour match victories in 2026 when he arrived at Wimbledon. One quarterfinal appearance later, Struff is ranked 41st and in somewhat realistic contention for U.S. Open seeding. He added another win by beating Aleksandr Shevchenko 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-4 on Tuesday.
Up next for Struff in the Kitzbuhel second round is Navone, who won their only previous encounter 6-7(2), 6-2, 6-4 at the 2025 Cincinnati Masters (qualifying). Even though Struff is also skilled on clay, a move to this surface is certainly not what he would want for this particular matchup. Navone is the essence of a clay-court specialist, and he showed it again with a 6-4, 6-0 rout of Alexandre Muller on Tuesday. The 47th-ranked Argentine should once again have the upper hand over Struff.
Pick: Navone in 3
